Nintendo has officially unveiled its next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Priced at $449, it is set to launch on June 5, 2025, in Japan and North America.

Switch2 Configuration Details:

Screen

The Switch 2 is set to come with a 7.9-inch wide color gamut LCD display boasting a resolution of 1080p (1920×1080). This marks a notable upgrade from the original Switch’s 6.2-inch display, the Switch OLED’s 7-inch screen, and the Switch Lite’s smaller 5.5-inch screen.

Supports 4K at 60fps or 1080P at 120fps when in docked mode

After being docked, the Switch 2 is capable of running games at a resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160) with a frame rate of 60fps, or at a resolution of 1080p/1440p (1920x1080/2560x1440) with a frame rate of 120fps.

Endurance

Nintendo has cautioned that these are “approximate estimates” and that “battery life will vary depending on the games played.” This battery performance is roughly equivalent to the launch model of the original Switch (2.5-6.5 hours). However, it falls short when compared to the battery life of later models: Switch (4.5-9 hours), Switch OLED model (4.5-9 hours), and Switch Lite (3-7 hours).

Dimensions and Weight

The total weight of the Switch 2 (including Joy-Con2) matches exactly with the current Switch1 model (including Joy-Con). However, it is both taller and longer compared to all existing models that have Joy-Cons attached.

Here’s a detailed comparison:

Switch 2: Height – 4.5 inches, Length – 10.7 inches, Thickness – 0.55 inches / Weight -1.18 pounds (with Joy-Con2)

Switch: Height – 4 inches, Length -9 .5 inches, Thickness -0 .55 inches / Weight -0 .88 pounds (with Joy-Cons)

Switch OLED: Height -4inches , Length -9 .5inches , Thickness -0 .55inches / Weight -0 .93pounds (with Joy-Cons)

Switch Lite: Height -3 .6inches , Length -8 .2inches , Thickness -0 .55inches / Weight -0 .61pounds

Joystick

The adoption of Hall effect joysticks has not yet been officially confirmed. This technology could potentially solve the joystick drift problem that many Switch users have experienced. Despite a 2023 patent suggesting the possible use of Hall effect joysticks, we still need to wait for official confirmation.

Audio

In terms of audio capabilities, the Switch2 supports linear PCM 5.1 channel output. For those seeking a surround sound experience, future system updates will allow you to enable simulated surround sound through either headphones or the built-in speakers.

Storage

The Switch 2 features a substantial increase in internal storage, offering 256GB compared to the original Switch and Switch Lite’s 32GB, and the Switch OLED’s 64GB. Additionally, an important update is that the Switch 2 will utilize microSD Express cards for storage expansion, supporting up to 2TB. This change means that microSD XC cards used in current Switch models will not be compatible with the new console, preventing direct transfer of data.

Others

Switch 2 supports wireless local area network (Wi-Fi 6)

  Equipped with 2 USB-C ports

A 3.5mm four-segment stereo mini jack (CTIA standard)

An integrated mono microphone, which supports noise cancellation, echo cancellation, and automatic gain control
