Nintendo has revealed the file sizes for several games on the Switch 2. Fortunately, the first-party titles are relatively compact, but some third-party games come with larger file sizes.

The My Nintendo Store in Japan has listed some Switch 2 games and their file sizes.
Switch 2 features 256GB of internal storage, a substantial upgrade from the original Switch and Switch Lite’s 32GB, and the Switch OLED model’s 64GB.
Another significant change is that the Switch 2 will need microSD Express cards for storage expansion, with support for up to 2TB. This indicates that the microSDXC cards compatible with the current Switch model will not be usable on the new device.
However, based on game sizes revealed by Japanese retailers, the built-in storage of 256GB should suffice for most players for a while.
Here are the storage sizes for some Switch 2 games:
– “Mario Kart: World”: 23.4GB
– “Donkey Kong: Banana Blast”: 10GB
– “Nintendo Classics: GameCube App”: 3.5GB
– “Super Mario Party Jamboree – Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV”: 7.7GB
– “Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World”: 5.7GB
The largest among these is “Mario Kart: World,” which isn’t surprising, but even at 23.4GB, it only occupies about 10% of the total storage space of Switch 2.
In comparison, “Cyberpunk 2077” seems quite large at 64GB on Switch 2, taking up about a quarter (25%) of its internal storage. Nevertheless, considering that “Cyberpunk 2077” on Xbox/PS5 versions ranges from around 100-110GB, it’s clear that the NS2 version has been significantly compressed.

Nintendo has recently confirmed that certain new game cartridges for the Switch 2 will not come with the game pre-loaded; instead, they will include a download key. However, "Cyberpunk 2077" is an exception to this.
For context, one of the largest games on the original Switch, *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom*, is only 16GB.
Additionally, with new games being added, the capacity of the GameCube App is expected to increase. At launch, this app includes titles like *The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker*, *F-Zero GX*, and *Soulcalibur II*.
