“Star Citizen,” which began crowdfunding in 2012, has experienced significant financial growth. By May 2024, the game had raised over $700 million through crowdfunding, and by the end of that year, it had reached over $750 million. Recently, officials announced that as of April 2025, the total crowdfunding amount has exceeded $800 million.
“Star Citizen” has once again broken the record for game crowdfunding, with its total amount now exceeding the development costs of many AAA games and even equaling that of “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
Despite this, there is still no definitive release date for the full version of “Star Citizen” or its single-player mode “Squadron 42”. Are we looking at another decade-long wait?
