“Mewgenics” (originally titled Mew-Genics) was first introduced in 2012. It was described as a cat-themed game that blends elements from “The Sims” and “Pokémon,” with touches of “Animal Crossing” and hints of “Tamagotchi.” Initially intended to be Team Meat’s follow-up to the beloved “Super Meat Boy,” it was shelved a few years later without much fanfare.
A lot has happened since then. After McMillen and his Team Meat co-developer Tommy Refenes went their separate ways, McMillen achieved massive success with “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” and created other critically acclaimed quirky titles like “The End is Nigh” and the Isaac spin-off “The Legend of Bum-bo.” In 2018, however, McMillen announced that he had decided to restart development on “Mewgenics,” and progress has been steady ever since.

McMillen provided a brief update on the game’s development progress on Steam, explaining that “Mewgenics” is currently undergoing optimizations and will be showcased in more detail next month. Regarding the release date? McMillen mentioned that more information would be available next month as well. Meanwhile, players can add it to their wishlist on PC.
